7 Simple Ways To Stay Relevant This Christmas

Can you believe we're already halfway through November?

We don't want to panic you but regardless of when you like to put up your tree, Christmas is right around the corner. In marketing terms, some would say it's already here!

As a business owner, it can feel overwhelming trying to decide how much time, energy and precious marketing resources to spend on Christmas. Do you ever truly feel ready? We think we know the answer.

To help you feel a little calmer and in control about the upcoming festive season, we wanted to share some quick and easy ideas to elevate your company this Christmas.

Why does this matter?

Here are just some of the reasons why:

  • More than US$1 trillion was spent in retail at Christmas in 2018 alone (US retail e-marketer stats);

  • The holiday season is emotionally charged and high levels of good spirit and time pressure cause people to respond intensely;

  • It's the perfect time to create relationship-building connections that will last for years to come; and

  • It's a great way to stay relevant and connect on a deeper level as your brand reaches people at home relaxing with their family and planning for the new year.

Hopefully, you understand the significance of creating a Christmas marketing campaign, but perhaps you feel out of time and monies to make it happen. Here are some simple but impactful things you can consider without too much added stress.

1. Prep Your Christmas Newsletter

Get organised in advance by drafting and scheduling a thoughtful holiday newsletter to thank your supporters and wish them a merry Christmas season right before they sign off for the holidays. We'd recommend sending one out on Monday 23rd Dec/Tuesday 24th as the last few days in office.

2. Run A Social Media Giveaway

It might seem intimidating but running a social media giveaway with a partner brand is a great way to generate interest from a new audience and thank your existing audience. Make the rules simple and engaging - eg ask followers to tag a friend to enter (bonus points for sharing) and announce it on IG/FB Live.

3. Giveback to Local Charities

Get your team involved in some charity work as a great afternoon out the office spreading some positive cheer or raise funds for some of Cayman's much-needed charities. It's always a good time to give back, especially at Christmas!

4. Add some Christmas flair to your branding

It might sound minor but even adding some stylish Christmas touches to your branding can share the holiday cheer and keep your business relevant. Get in touch with your graphic designer {or heck source one online} and consider adding some festive sparkle to your logo, your team photos or your office signage!

5. Send personalized cards & gifts

Don’t feel pressured into sending huge corporate gift baskets that often get dumped in the recipient’s office kitchen. When it comes to Christmas, sometimes less really is more. We’re big fans of a hand-written card from all the team and a thoughtful and well-considered gift. Is there an inspiring book that might resonate with your client or a game that could be enjoyed by the team of their families? Give it a little more thought and you might be surprised by the impact.

6. Celebrate Your Team

Don’t let the end of the year be just about work. Make time to celebrate all the hard work of your team with a team outing or lunch. After all, without your team, there is no business. It might sound trite but your clients will respect that you truly value your team and in turn, your team will better serve your customers when back in the office {just maybe not after some liquid celebrations!}. Get those out of offices on and don’t be shy to share the fun on your social.

7. Thank Your Partners & Peers

When it comes to showing your gratitude it can be easy to focus solely on your clients. But what about all those colleagues, peers or friends that refer you business, support your business or just speak so highly of it! A thoughtful thank you to them really shows you as a class act and only adds to your business success.
